Head of Research & Economics

The role holder is responsible for leading the Economics and Research department and overseeing the development and execution of the Economics and Research group

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify areas of research that will result in meaningful and impactful reports that provide input into economic thinking.
  • Contribute to a wide range of issues that span different branches of economics by providing analysis, policy and program design and capacity development.
  • Lead on development and implementation of research strategy, ensuring that individual programs and projects: are consistent with overall strategy, are creative and rigorous and will have tangible impact and influence.
  • Lead a team to conduct detailed economic analysis, using robust methodology and make recommendations based on research.
  • Provide economic expertise to Board Directors as required.

People Management Responsibilities

  • Define goals and key performance indicators for all direct reports and ensures effective implementation of the performance management process.
  • Manage the direct reports by evaluating their performance, providing feedback on an on-going basis, identifying development needs and coaching them to ensure capability development

Qualifications and experience

  • A PhD in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial economics or a related field such as monetary economics.
  • 12 + years relevant professional experience in an international financial institution – Bank etc. or ministry of finance.
  • Experience in a Research Institute or academia also acceptable.
  • Published in Top Economics and Financial Journals – Desirable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative modelling and econometrics to support analysis and policy recommendation.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.

 


Section Head level Actuary/Reviewing Actuary: UAE

The Section Head level Actuary will perform a key role by providing strategic oversight and direction to the team responsible for professional actuarial support services in relation to the effective supervision of regulated insurers. You will direct and manage the actuarial aspects to support the off-site/onsite supervision activities of the UAE regulated institutions to ensure their adherence and compliance to rules and instructions as established. Promote safety and soundness of the insurance industry through continuous assessment of risk in Insurance Institutions.

Qualifications & Experience

Fellow (i.e., fully qualified actuary) from a recognized International Actuarial Association (e.g., The UK Institute & Faculty of Actuaries, The USA Society of Actuaries).
 12-15 years’ relevant experience, of which at least five years should be at a senior level in the insurance industry and/or working experience with financial services regulatory body performing similar duties
 Knowledge of and experience with insurance and reinsurance actuarial issues, including pricing, reserving, investment analysis, capital, Enterprise Risk Management and financial reporting. This should include hands-on experience.
 Experience with and knowledge of the developments in major insurance market regulatory frameworks, Insurance Core Principles and financial reporting.
 Working experience in the UAE, with appropriate familiarity with the UAE market and regulations

Job Purpose

The role holder is responsible for assisting the Section Head-Organization Development in developing and managing the Human Resource policies and optimizing the organization structure to ensure the achievement of the strategic and operational objectives of the organization.  The role holder is also responsible for working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to identify and analyse issues impacting organisational effectiveness and capabilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides advice and consultancy to the Lead for Organization Development on all matters relating to organizational design, workforce planning and its governance to ensure that all structural and design related aspects are aligned towards enhancing team, business units and organizational performance.
  • Ensures maintenance of the organization structure, job families, grading structures and positions in the HR system.
  • Leads the strategies that enhances organizational capabilities to support the creation of a high-performance organization.
  • Develops an outsourcing plan related to the Structure by recommending positions to be outsourced for better efficiency and productivity.
  • Problems are resolved effectively and fosters an effective employer-employee relationship.
  • Provides HR expertise to all levels within the organization by effectively coaching and supporting employees and leaders.
  • Maintains an understanding of relevant best practices in Human Resource Management and accordingly guides the HR team to meet organizational objectives
  • Manages the entire section in the absence of Section Head
  • Performs any other duties outside the scope as and when required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field – Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related/relevant field
  • Desired qualification CIP
  • Experience in a senior HR role with a minimum of 2 years in the Middle East

Key Functions –

  • Manage Survey participation

  • Review framework and propose changes
  • Conduct market benchmarking, detailed costing and analysis

Annual Performance & Bonus payouts

Board Relations

  • Work on Board of Directors annual payout by coordinating the details with Board Relations Team
  • Prepare the Board of Directors payout file and share the same with the Finance team for payout
  • Assist in any other Board related backups/information as requested by the Rewards Head

Staff Cost Budgeting

  • Prepare detailed staff cost assumptions as per elements and submit to the finance team
  • Monitor finance entries and validate the final outcome with the built model
  • Simulate projections related to policies
  • Support for reforecast/re-budgeting

 

Monthly Staff Cost Monitoring

  • Monthly Staff Cost monitoring by elements and validate any gaps
  • Prepare CTC reposts
  • Support CTC requests from HRBP teams
  • Support in efficiency drive by conducting CTC analysis
  • Support Head of recruitment with Costs, CTCs related to employee movements, contract renewals.

Payroll Support

  • Ensure that the commissions files are received on time for payouts
  • Prepare analysis on Commission payouts for all teams
  • Seek approvals on the commission payout from the Rewards Head on time to ensure timely payout of commission
  • Validate all incentive payouts in line with the budget

Employee services support

Support the employee services team to validate salary changes as and when needed in order to adhere to the new framework
